Spokane Chinese Language School
History
The school started in 2004. A group of first-generation Chinese professionals in Spokane who wanted to keep their native language alive in their children found each other. In its first semester, the school counted about 40 students. Since then, the program has grown to include many other kinds of families. In the 2005-2006 school year, over 50 students attended our classes.
Why Learn Chinese?
You want your child to be exposed to one of the world's greatest cultures. You know that for future generations of Americans, a working knowledge of the Chinese language will give them an advantage. You're aware that studies show that children learn languages better than adults. You are of Chinese descent and desire to keep alive the knowledge of your child's ancestors. Whatever the motivation, you will not be disappointed. Nor will your child.
About Us
All our classes are taught by native-born Chinese. Most teachers are professionals in Spokane who volunteer their time. Some were trained as teachers in China . The school year runs on a semester basis, with approximately 18 weeks of class per semester.
Your child will enjoy excellent access to the teacher. Class sizes are small, ranging from 7-15 students. Each Saturday consists of two 50 minute classes, with a 10 minute break in between.
Cost
Tuition for one semester is about $200. Books cost vary.
School Year Calendar
1st Semester -- Early September to mid December.
2nd Semester -- Early January to mid June.
We follow the holiday schedule for the local K-12 school districts for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Spring Break.
Special Thanks
We wish to extend a heartfelt 谢谢 (thank you) to Gonzaga University. Without their facilities, our school could not succeed. We are, however, not affiliated with Gonzaga University.
This school is open to all ages of children and adults, regardless of nationality or place of birth. Please join us.
